Who We Are:
We are simply a group of people that are trying to live life to the fullest. We are just forgiven sinners that are trying to live according to the Law of Christ (to love God and to love people). We think of ourselves as disciples of Jesus—in fact, that’s why we are here. We exist to win, build and send disciples of Jesus. If you are unsure of what we mean by that, we’d love to talk to you about it and answer your questions.
And, we want you to know that you are welcome here. Whether you believe in God or not, we welcome you. We believe that you are on this planet for a reason and we want to be used by God to help you transform your life.
At Loveland Christian Church, we value 6 things. It’s OK if you disagree with us, we’ll still welcome you and love you. But just so you know, these are the things we think are worth fighting for.
First, we value God’s Word—the Bible. It is our authority (II Timothy 3:16, 17). We work to align our lives with it, and not the other way around, forcing it to say something that it just doesn’t say. And secondly, because we esteem it so much, it is our deepest heart-desire to obey what God asks of us (I John 2:3-6).
Thirdly and fourthly, we value people. And that makes sense since we all are people! But specifically, because we believe that God made you, that means you’re pretty important, to Him and to us (Genesis 1:27). The funny thing about people is that no matter how we fight it, we need each other. Lack of human contact leaves a void in our souls; we want to fill that void with authentic relationships and community (Mark 12:30, 31 & Hebrews 10:23-25 & Acts 2:42).
It was once said, “too many people talk about God and not to Him”. Our fifth value is prayer. I mean, why wouldn’t we value the heavenly chat? We value God’s word, the way that He speaks to us, so it just makes sense that we’d want to have conversations with Him (James 5:16 & I Thessalonians 5:16-18).
When we look at these first five things we think are worth fighting for, we realize that these are not just one-time events. We don’t want to just make a splash, we want to swim. It’s not about doing the right thing one time, it is about doing the right thing every time. You might call this integrity; we call our sixth value sustained excellence (Colossians 3:22-24).
Loveland Christian church was first chartered in Loveland, OH in 1926. Even at this early date, we see the church was started because a group of dedicated disciples valued the same things that we still value today. Our facility’s location has changed a bit over the years, landing at our current address (12070 Lebanon Road, Loveland, OH 45140) in 1966.
We are not part of a denomination, though we are part of a church movement that started during a period of religious revival that took place in frontier America at the beginning of the 19th century called The Restoration Movement. Still today, we identify with and are known vicariously as independent Christian Churches and Churches of Christ.
When you walk through our doors, you’ll immediately notice an environment that is friendly and welcoming of all ages, genders and races. You’ll probably see hugs, handshakes and lots of smiles. But you may also see tears as we encourage and support each other in the rough times. We offer nursery services and age-appropriate worship settings for children up to 5th grade.
We offer two different worship music options between our three service times (beginning at 8:45, 10:00 or 11:15 am). Our earliest service expresses worship through hymns. The latter services consist of music, most often led by our house band, that is much like the stuff you listen to on the radio, though our song sets often include songs from years gone by, both ancient and nostalgic, as well as fresh expressions.
Each week, we spend time learning from the Bible. You could call this a sermon, a teaching or a lesson. We call it practical and relevant. (because we value God’s word).
We offer communion each and every week—no exceptions. We pass trays with symbolic pieces of bread and grape juice. There’s a lot that could be said about this special part of worship, but for the sake of this paragraph, just know that we offer it each week in our services (and we’re happy to tell you why we do it every week and not just once a month or once a quarter).
We take an offering each week. Yup, it’s true—and we don’t apologize for it. Giving of our income to God is a special experience for believers in Jesus. In many ways, it’s a lot like communion and again, we could say much more about it. We want you to know that as our guest, you do not need to feel obligated to give. We pray that you will receive something from us during the service.
