Guide to Service

Local Non-Profits & Parachurch Volunteer Opportunities

Plan a Service Project for Your Group

Thank you in advance for being part of the small groups community here at LCC! Our goal for every small group is simple yet powerful: WIN, BUILD, and SEND disciples of Jesus Christ. We want to SEND you out to SERVE!! We believe service should be woven into the very DNA of every small group. After all, we follow the One who “took on the very nature of a servant” (Philippians 2:7).

We encourage each group to roll up their sleeves and take on a service project at least 2–3 times a year. To make things easy (because life’s complicated enough), we’ve created a handy guide to service. All you have to do is pick one of our para-church partners, reach out, and plan your next project. It’s that simple—no middle man required!

Hopes Closet

Foster Care

+ Learn More
Hope’s Closet provides clothing, material resources, community, and loving support to foster children and the foster parents who care for them.

It’s a wonderful place to serve and would be perfect for your next group service outing.

When you call ask for Bridgett Risk to learn how your group can get involved.

Please note: We can best accommodate group requests with at least one month’s notice. Groups should be 20 people or fewer, plan for 2–3 hours of service, and have participants aged 13 or older.

Life Forward

Pregnancy Care

+ Learn More
Life Forward helps women and their families make life-affirming decisions through the love of God.

As a pregnancy care center, they often need administrative and organizational assistance. Your group could help by organizing supply closets or assembling baby bottles and packets for their Change for Life Campaign.

They also host several major events throughout the year where your group can volunteer or participate. My personal favorite is Strides for Life, a 5K run held every September.

However you choose to serve, your time and talents will help empower women to make life-affirming decisions through God’s love.

Center for Respite Care

Homeless Care

+ Learn More
The mission of the Center for Respite Care is to provide quality, holistic medical care to people experiencing homelessness who need a safe place to heal while helping them break the cycle of homelessness.

Their greatest need is on the weekends. With the help of volunteers like you, the Center aims to provide 312 meals each year on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Center has a kitchenette stocked with dishware and serving utensils where your group can plug in crockpots and warmers. Volunteers can bring a meal to serve and spend time visiting with the residents. Any leftovers will be refrigerated or frozen for future meals.

When you call ask for Edward Slater. He will point you in the right direction.

Shine Like Sable

Food Closet

+ Learn More
Shine Like Sable provides funding for the Mason City Schools Weekend Food Program. Because of financial hardship or the absence of a parent at home to cook, many students don’t have access to a hot meal while school is on break.

Each week, volunteers pack nutritious meals, snacks, and beverages for low-income students. These food bags are distributed on Fridays to last students through the weekend.

To protect privacy, the bags are discreetly placed in students’ lockers during class or dropped off at classroom doors for teachers to quietly hand out before students head home.

Every week, Shine Like Sable provides over 600 food packs to children in the Mason, Ohio school district. They need your help to continue this mission until no child experiences hunger.

Contact Holly Gibson to learn how your group can join their next packing party or fundraising event

Woodland Lakes

Camp and Retreat Center

+ Learn More
Woodland Lakes has a beautiful campus, but it is only through the effort of many dedicated and hard-working people that it can keep it that way.

If your group is handy and would like to help keep the grounds and facilities a fantastic place for all seasons, consider lending your time and talent to WLCC.

They are always looking for groups who are willing to help with any number of projects throughout the year – from painting cabins and cleaning facilities, to setting up and tearing down equipment, to doing basic paperwork, there is something to do every month at WLCC.

They are happy to accommodate groups that are looking to do service projects and volunteering at Woodland Lakes is a great way to develop teamwork and build friendships!

When call ask for Andrew and he will get you started!

Various Ministries

+ Learn More
Joshua's Place is a Christ-centered non-profit dedicated to equipping Christ followers with a heart and a mind for the poor. Our programs range from transactional to relational to developmental. We believe poverty in America is complex, and we are dedicated to doing help that doesn't hurt.

One of the best ways to serve is through "Serve Saturday" on the first Saturday of every month. At Serve Saturday you will be able to make a positive impact in the lives of students in the Kings, Mason, and Deer Park school districts.

They are committed to packing weekend food packs for students who don't receive enough food over the weekend. It's a family-friendly event and quick to join in.

Call the office and ask about the next serve Saturday for your group!

Missions in Motion

Local and Global Service

+ Learn More
Missions in Motion is committed to Bringing HOPE. Changing LIVES. Sharing the LOVE of CHRIST—Right Across the Street.

“Across the Street” Mission Opportunities are local outreach efforts serving the Tri-State area. Get involved and make a positive impact by ministering to the homeless, veterans, families with special needs, people of all ages, and those affected by local disasters. Check out some options for your group:

Shoes for H.O.P.E. — you can volunteer at the warehouse to bag, sort, and box shoes for shipment, or take the lead and host a shoe drive yourself.

Then there’s the Mission Cruise for H.O.P.E., where you can help sort and pair new tennis shoes and socks, prep crafts and mission items, or even host a brand-new sock drive.

For a more hands-on experience, the Day of H.O.P.E. gives you the chance to prep supplies at the warehouse and serve at our annual outreach event.

If you like a little sweetness with your service, their Kettle Corn Events need volunteers at different events throughout the year. And of course, Local Outreach invites you to minister directly to the homeless and low-income in your own community.

Each of these opportunities is a chance to be the hands and feet of Christ, to share His love in tangible ways, and to experience the kind of JOY that sticks with you long after the day is done!

For upcoming events, visit their Facebook page and feel free to email or call Cathy for more information.
